Contextile 2024 – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial, with the support of the Municipality of Guimar\u00e3es, is organising Educational TEXTILE TALKS 2024, which explores possible connections for students in the artistic and design fields, both in life and in work after graduation, looking at the potential crossing of the sustainable construction of interdisciplinary networks, involvement in public programmes that integrate them into professional contexts and in the collaborative and entrepreneurial creative efforts.<\/span><\/p>

For this conversation and dialogical exchange, different communities of interest will take part, such as schools and universities, graduates, alumni and professionals, institutions, museums and cultural mediators, or those interested in textiles, their languages and teaching and learning strategies.<\/p>

The one-day event will offer an informal format in an atmosphere of conversation and sharing. There will be brief introductions to the topics of discussion, short presentations by guest speakers and case studies to kick-start the debate. The conversation will be conducted in English with online streaming.<\/p>

Paulo Lopes Silva <\/b>Councillor in Guimar\u00e3es Municipality with responsibility for Culture, Administrative Modernisation and Quality, Intelligent and Information Systems, Customer Service, Human Resources and Tourism<\/p>

Cindy Steiler
<\/b>Multidisciplinary artist and alternative process photographer. Her work explores concepts of memory, space and longing through a range of materials and techniques including found objects, textiles, photography, embroidery and crochet. Steiler\u2019s work is inspired by her travels, where she can delve in to a new community, listening to stories told by residents to learn the personality and history of each new place. This practice has led her across the United States, Canada and Europe, presenting exhibitions and teaching workshops for students of all ages. Her work has been published in books and magazines in the US, Australia, Europe and Asia.<\/span><\/p>

Susana Cereja
<\/b>She began her career in architecture but showed her passion for art from an early age. She studied in Lisbon and Germany, immersing herself in ancient techniques of artistic production, and finding her \u2018home\u2019 in tapestry in the Arraiolos stitch. She worked as an architect for five years in the studio of the artist Joana Vasconcelos, but her passion for art continued to grow, consolidating her presence in this universe with exhibitions in London, Lisbon, the Algarve, \u00c1gueda, Tallinn and Kranj. In 2022, Susana took up an artistic residency in Estonia, and it was in 2023 that she stood out as a guest artist at the Kranj International Textile Biennale in Slovenia. In addition to her regular work, Susana enjoys developing artistic projects in the community, contributing and making an impact on a local scale. This is evident in her recent project in Vila do Torr\u00e3o, Portugal, where she collaborated with people aged 45 to 82 and, over the course of a month, worked with the community to create a piece that involved 17 people in the project.<\/span><\/p>

Sofia Victorino
<\/b>Holds a PhD in History, specialising in Contemporary History from NOVA FCSH. She currently holds a scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology and is researching the relations between decolonial thinking, contemporary art and cultural institutions. Until 2021, she held the position of Director of Education and Public Programmes at the Whitechapel Gallery in London. Previously, from 2002 to 2011, was Coordinator of the Educational Service at the Serralves Foundation.<\/p>

Roberto Liberti
<\/b>Designer and professor at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, in the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design, specialising in Fashion Design, in Naples, Italy. His academic practice centres on the intersection between design and education, contributing to the training of new professionals in the field.<\/p>

Vera Sachetti
<\/b>Design critic and curator based in Basel, Switzerland. She works as a curator, researcher and editor, and coordinates international design and architecture projects. She graduated in Communication Design from FBAUP and holds a Master’s degree in Design Criticism from the School of Visual Arts, New York.<\/p>

Frederico Duarte
<\/b>With a degree in Communication Design (FBAUL), a Master’s in Design Criticism (SVA) and a PhD in Curating (Birkbeck College and Victoria & Albert Museum), he is a critic, curator and lecturer at FBAUL and has worked as a designer in Malaysia and Italy.<\/p>

Vera Sacchetti e Frederico Duarte<\/b>, co-founders of the magazine Fazer, they propose an innovative approach to contemporary design, exploring how this discipline shapes societal transformations through a critical and multifaceted perspective.<\/p>

F\u00e1tima S\u00e3o Sim\u00e3o
<\/b>An expert in development, strategy and sustainability for cultural and creative industries (CCI). Having a background in Economics (Faculty of Economics of Porto, FEP) and an MA in Cultural Policy and Management (City University of London), since 2001, F\u00e1tima has supported over 300 CCI projects, from startups to non-profits and public institutions both at national and international level. In 2020, she completed her PhD thesis titled \u201cAuthors\u2019 Rights and Rights\u2019 Authors: on the Relationship Between Copyright and Artistic Work\u201d (Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto). She teaches and researches cultural and media economics, project development, strategy and entrepreneurship at FEP and Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL). Coordinator of the Creative Commons Portuguese Chapter, she is an activist for the open culture movement, since 2013. She was responsible for the creation, management and business development of the creative centre of the Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto (UPTEC), between 2009 and 2021.<\/p>
