O Têxtil is an experimental 35mm hand-painted film with original music by Rui Souza. The title is taken from the newspaper of the same name, clandestinely distributed in the Ave Valley during Salazar’s fascist dictatorship. Based on this research into the region’s historical archives, experimental screen printing techniques were used, utilising printing dies from the textile industry. The result of this film is a sensory experience that explores artisanal processes in the creation of moving images, using paint directly on the 35mm film, provoking a sensation of tactile vision, a term coined by the Grenadian cinematographer José Val del Omar.
